Competition Format
- 8.2.1 Yukon
Championships
Draw:
4 teams or less - double round-robin
5 - 8 teams - single round-robin
9 + teams
- as determined by the Executive Committee

All Yukon Championships
end on a Sunday. The number of sheets of ice and the number of teams competing
determine the start date. Except in circumstances deemed to be extraordinary
by the Executive Committee or its appointees, all Yukon championships must
play to completion at the Host Site.
Tie Situations:
- Two way tie (one berth) teams A and B play. Loser eliminated. Winner earns berth.
- Two way tie (two berths) teams play each other to determine ranking of berths.

- In the following situations the round-robin win and loss records of those teams against each other will determine their seeding for tie breaker games. If no such
seeding is established then the CCA Skill Based Team Ranking Process is used.
- Three way tie (one berth): Seed 3 v Seed 2, loser eliminated; winner advances to play seed 1 for winning berth.
- Three way tie (two berths): Seed 1 v seed 2, winner earns first berth; loser plays seed 3 for second berth.
- Four way tie (one berth) Seed 1 v seed 4, and seed 2 v seed 3, losers eliminated; winners play and subsequent winner gains berth.
- Four way tie (two berths) Seed 1 v seed 4, and seed 2 v seed 3, losers eliminated; winners advance and play to determine ranking of berths.

8.2.2 Y/NWT Championships
According to YCA and NWTCA Agreement.
8.3: Eligibility and Team Make-up
8.3.1 Eligibility:
A) YCA Competitions (For information on Yukon Men's Championship, see also 8.4))
This sub section is directly related to the CCA Statement of Principal regarding residency.
a. To compete in a YCA sanctioned competition, excluding cash spiels, a competitor must:
- Be a bona fide resident and domiciled in the YCA jurisdiction on or before October 1 of the current curling season. *
- Bona fide resident and domiciled: A player's declared residence must be his/her primary residence,
and the player must personally occupy the residence. To determine primary residency YCA may consider other factors, e.g.,

The Province or Territory where the player files an Income Tax return
- The Province or Territory where the player holds medical coverage
- The Province or Territory where the player holds a valid driver's licence
- A signed statement from a known resident of the player's declared community, stating
the length of time the player has been known to reside in the said community

| Be a registered member of an affiliated club on or before November 1 of the current curling season. (When a club has not held their membership registration by this
date, an exception may be granted upon application to the Executive Council.)
The player shall have curled regularly in an affiliated club for current season.*
YCA may use, as a guideline, the criteria of curling more than 50% of the regular games from the commencement of the league in which a player has paid dues for the current season. This criterion may also be applied to each subsequent level of competition.
Except for the requirement of being a registered member of an affiliated club on or before November 1 of the current season, the following are excluded from all the above: Students, entering junior competition, attending school on a full time basis outside their Province/Territory of permanent residence shall be permitted to compete for either their home Province/Territory or Province/Territory in which they attend school.
Possess a valid competitor's card
Competitor card fee, team registration and fee, affidavit and participant waiver must be received by YCA by competition deadline. Members entering competition before the club affiliation date must have their membership status endorsed by their club.
Be a member of a 4 person eligible team, or a declared fifth player. |
- b. Unless a club representative team, a team may comprise players from more than one club providing they meet the above conditions.
- c. All competitors including fifth players, entering adult competition, must purchase a full fee competitor's card by the relevant competition registration deadline. Players who do not use their card are eligible for reimbursement of card fees. (Participating as a spare from a designated player's pool does not constitute use of card.) Eligible participants in junior and master competitions may purchase cards at 50% of the adult rate.
- d. Men's teams playing for sanctioned points or berths must possess a current competitor's card.
- e. Junior men and junior women must be a maximum of 20 years of age as of December 31 of the year prior to the Canadian Championship.
- f. Mixed, women's and men's competitors must be a minimum of 19 years of age as of December 31 of the year prior to the Canadian Championship.
- g. Senior women and senior men must be a minimum of 50 years of age as of December 31 of the year prior to the Canadian Championship.
- h. Master's men and master's women must be a minimum of 60 years of age as of December 31 of the year prior to the Canadian Championship.
- B) Y/NWT Competitions:
Competitors and teams must be approved by either YCA or NWTCA.
- 8.3.2 Notice of Entry:
A) YCA Competitions:
All affiliated clubs are entitled to enter teams in YCA competitions.
It is the team's responsibility to provide YCA with a team list of affiliated members, their
signed player affidavits, participant waivers and appropriate fees by the applicable registration deadline, according to Section 8.3
- In all cases the entry deadline is 1.00 PM on the date specified in the championship entry form.
- The team entry fee and competitor fees, as determined by YCA, must be paid at time of entry.
B) Y/NWT Competitions:
As per YCA and NWTCA joint Championship Agreement N.B. A joint YCA/NWTCA Championship
Agreement is pending. The goal is to ensure standard competition and event formats, regardless of the host association or site.
8.3.3 Team Make-up and Alternate/Substitutions/Spares:
(YCA teams)
- A) YCA Competitions:
N.B. If special rules are in effect for any competition, they shall take precedence.
Before the start of a competition a team must declare its personnel according to Section
8.3.2. Fifth players are recognized for men's and women's competition; however, a team shall designate the four eligible players to commence play for that competition. If the fifth member is registered as a player he/she
shall be recognized as the alternate for that team. Alternate players will be subject to Section 8.3.1. Every team shall be composed of a minimum of four players except as provided for in 8.3.3 b. When a player(s) is
unable to play because of illness, accident or other extenuating circumstances deemed reasonable by the Executive Committee or its appointee; the following conditions apply:
a. A team shall include a minimum of two players from the original team and an alternate, substitute(s) or spare(s). The playing position of the team shall be according
to CCA Rules of Curling for Officiated Play. Under no circumstances may a team play with fewer than three players delivering stones.
b. A team may play with three players at any point in the competition according to CCA Rules of Curling for Officiated Play. Exception: Mixed play must have 2 male and 2 female players at alternating positions.
c. An Alternate is a fifth player (who must be registered with the team on the team entry form.)
d. A Substitute is a member in good standing from any YCA member club.
e. A Spare is a player from the player's pool, provided by the Host Committee.
f. Alternates, substitutes and spares must meet age and gender requirements,be members of a club affiliated with YCA and must not have been registered in the same event with another team.
g. Alternates and substitutes must have a competitor's card. (Players in the spare pool do not need a card, but non-competing carded players are first choice for a pool.)
h. If, before the start of a mixed competition, the Yukon Curling Association determines that one person of a couple cannot compete, the couple can be replaced by a pair.
i. Substitutes and spares will not be considered as part of a team.
j. Before the registration deadline for the competition, teams are free to change personnel after notifying YCA of such changes. |
- Appeals to any ruling must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee.
B) Y/NWT Competitions:
As above and the following:
- If, before the team's departure for the host site, the YCA determines that two or more
players of a competing team are unable to play, then a replacement team, complying with 8.3.1 (Eligibility) and 8.3.2 (Notice of Entry), shall be selected by YCA.
C) Canadian Championship:
1. After winning Y/NWT and before competing at a Canadian Championship;

If a YCA team has not selected a fifth player (where applicable); or
Subject to CCA Special Rules for all National Championships 4: if a player is unable to attend a National Championship;

In order of priority, the following applies for selection of a fifth or replacement player:
a. A carded player from YCA jurisdiction, subject to 8.3.1
b. A carded player meeting NWTCA's eligibility requirements
c. In extenuating circumstances, following Executive Committee approval, a non-carded member in good standing from YCA jurisdiction.
N.B. Competitor cards, once used, are nontransferable and this member must purchase a card before competing at the National Level. |
2. A fifth player selected after a team has won the Y/NWT Championship shall not be eligible to have his name placed on any Y/NWT trophy by the YCA.
3. Subject to CCA Special Rules for all National Championships 4: In the event a player from the winning team is unable to compete at the national level and a replacement chosen; the original competing player shall be considered part of the winning team for Y/NWT award and trophy purposes. The names of the original team shall be submitted to CCA with the replacement player clearly noted as such. |
